Childish Gambino wins first GRAMMY Award

Childish Gambino secured his first ever GRAMMY Award win last night, taking home the prize for Best Traditional R&B Performance for ‘Redbone’. He also performed a stunning rendition of album highlight ‘Terrified’ live on the night – joined by the actor JD McCrary, who features on the original recording and joins Glover in the forthcoming adaptation of ‘The Lion King’ – with ‘Redbone’ additionally soundtracking the new iPhone X advert, which aired during the broadcast.

This continues the phenomenal success of ‘Awaken, My Love!’, which as well as being nominated for five prizes at the prestigious 2018 event, also recently landed Childish Gambino his first ever BRIT Award nomination for International Male. The winner will be crowned at London’s O2 Arena on February 21st.

2018 will see Donald Glover continue to assert himself as one of the leading voices in contemporary culture. Season 2 of ‘Atlanta’ – the acclaimed TV show which Glover stars in, writes and directs – premieres in March, having won awards ranging from two Golden Globes and two Emmys to the Writers Guild of America. Later this year will see the release of the hugely-anticipated ‘Solo: A Star Wars Story’, in which Glover plays a young Lando Calrissian in the Han Solo spinoff. He has also been cast as Simba in the live-action remake of ‘The Lion King’, which has since confirmed additional appearances ranging from Beyonce and James Earl Jones to Seth Rogan and Chiwetel Ejiofor.
